Janome stockist in Whitley Bay wins Small Business Retailer of the Year Award!!

SINGER SEWING CENTRE - WINS SMALL BUSINESS RETAILER OF THE YEAR AWARD 2010/11
The North Tyneside Small Business Awards were held on Tuesday 14th December at North Tyneside Business Village. The categories were: Manufacturing, Services, Retail, Business Start-ups, and Young Entrepreneur. The awards ceremony was attended by the Chief Executive of North Tyneside Council, the Mayor of the North Tyneside, as well as blue chip local company representatives.
The Singer Sewing Centre from Whitley Bay was one of two finalists in the retail category who were asked to attend and ultimately were successful in claiming the top prize as winner of the Retail category.
Accepting the award for Singer Sewing Centre was company director Colin Mills. Colin expressed his thanks for being selected for the Retailer of the Year award and also his appreciation and thanks to his staff for their support and hard work. He added ‘Over the last year, when many companies have suffered hardship, we have worked extra hard to find new openings and expand into new premises allowing us to set up Sewing, Quilting and Craft Classes. We would hope we have brought a little something extra to the town of Whitley Bay, which is slowly seeing more shops opening and becoming the busy town centre we once knew.
The Singer Centre in Whitley Bay is more than just a sewing machine shop, they hold regular sewing class, stock a good range of patchwork and dress fabrics, and a huge selection of buttons and haberdashery.

Horizon Workshop @ Ilkeston Sewing Centre

Phil Wood, the owner of Ilkeston Sewing and Janome Centre has over 40 years experience in the sewing machine trade. He was originally trained by Singer, and in 1986 opened his own shop in Ilkeston. Janome is now his preferred brand of sewing machine, although he will happily service and repair all makes and model.
Steven, his son, also works in the business and can be seen below helping some of the ladies on the Horizon workshop.
Last week we ran an Janome Horizon Test Drive, for the local sewers to come and try out our new long arm quilting machine. Phil and Steve had made a real effort to make everyone enjoy the workshop and we even had Janome red balloons on each of the machines!

The Sewing Centre also has a large range of trimmings, haberdashery, and fake fur fabrics, plus dress patterns and cross stitch kits. It's well worth a visit next time you are in the area. For more information, check out their website, http://www.ilkestonsewingcentre.co.uk

Horizon Day @ Coventry Sewing Centre

Coventry Sewing Centre is the best in the area for Janome sewing, embroidery and quilting machines, and holds many Janome accessories in stock as well. They also have a full range of habberdashery and dress patterns and run weekly dressmaking and quilting classes... just check out there website for full details. http://www.covsew.co.uk
I visited the shop in September, to show some of the local sewers the new Janome Horizon and as you can see below, everyone was working hard on their Test Drive projects and enjoying using the new long armed quilting machine.
The large sewing space is a must for quilters, and any sewer who works on large projects will also appreciate this space!

Horizon Test Drive @ Bridlington Sewing Centre

John and Barbara Hall own and run the Sewing Centre in Bridlington. The shop is an Aladdin's cave for Janome sewing machines, accessories, fabrics, haberdashery and trimmings! And all their regular customers would agree, that John and Barbara are lovely people to deal with. John has many years of experience with sewing machines, and will turn his hand to all sewing machine repairs and servicing. Barbara loves to sew and even has her own Janome MC11000 at home!
Why not visit their shop next time you are in the area, 1 Queen Street, Bridlington. YO15 2SF

In September, we ran a Test Drive day for ladies thinking of buying the Janome Horizon 7700QCP, and what a wonderful time we had. What could be better.. a play on the new machine... and a biscuit or two at the same time!
Everyone loved the new Play and Pictograph stitches, and look at the size of the extension table that comes with it....a really necessity when working on big sewing and quilting projects.

Harrogate Quilt Exhibition with White Rose Sewing & Craft Centre

The first wekend in September is the annual Harrogate Quilt Show http://www.grosvenorshows.co.uk/html/Northern_Harrogate.html and this year, for a change, the weather was beautiful! Visitors had the chance to sit outside and soak up the last rays of sunshine for summer 2010! I was working with Phil from White Rose Sewing and Craft centre, who has a shop in both Harrogate and Wetherby. We had a display of Janome machines, and Phil also had a selection of Horn cabinets for customers to see close up as well.

Sandra, (with me in photo below) who loves Janome machines and has been a long time customer of White Rose, took the opportunity to take a look at the new Janome Horizon... and who knows... she might add it to her collection!

The Sewing Centre @ Chesterfield

The Chesterfield Sewing Centre was opened by Keith Dawes in 1983, this Spring he retired, and new owner Jane Drayton has taken over the business. We would like to say a big Thank You to Kieth for all his support of Janome Sewing Machines over the years and best wishes for your retirement!
Jane has many years of experience in the embroidery business, and is looking forward to getting to know the Janome customers in Chesterfield.
The shop has had a complete re-fit and (and a new name, The Sewing Centre), and has a lovely bright and airy feel. Jane is continuing to stock haberdashery, wool, and of course Janome machines, but will also be saucing new and exciting sewing and knitting products. This week Anne and Linda, who work in the Sewing Centre have been learning the Janome machines and overlocker, and can't wait to get started and make some wonderful and inspiring samples!
The Sewing Centre can be found at 10, Stephenson Place, Chesterfield, S40 1XL and contacted on 01246 232176.
